On Collaboration in schools...
"Collaboration is a means to accomplish the complex goals of school, a way to build community while responding to the many pressures of the contemporary education system. We need collaboration to ensure that schools are positive, supportive, and effective places for students to learn and teachers to teach.... all personnel are under tremendous pressure to ensure that all students achieve higher academic standards. In this context, collaboration is not a luxury; it is a necessity." -Dr. Marilyn Friend
On how following the passion to work with children affects us all...
"I see adults finding their voice as a result of doing this work. It's like they reclaim and heal the things that happened to them in their childhood that maybe no one was there to help them with when they were younger." -Louise Derman-Sparks, Professor Emeritus, Pacific Oaks College
On the importance of connecting with children...
"For your child, connecting with you is as important as eating and sleeping. His brain needs the nourishment he gets from his sense of connection with you and the other adults he loves. When there's not a loving connection, his brain actually stops building neural pathways, and he becomes distressed." -Patty Wipfler
Lauren--I loved the Patty Wipfler quote this week! I agree with it so much! Have you ever worked with a child that you just couldn't connect with?
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, very inspiring quotes and very meaningful as well. I especially loved the last quote as it is a reminder of the importance of building those strong bonds and attachments with children. This must be a quote that you keep quite to close you as you work so intimately with families and their children. I bet you can recite that quote!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for being inspirational once again!
Take care,
Stephanie
